Age: Roughly 700 years old, though she appears to be in her late 20s.

Gender/Sex: Female

Appearance: Laegil has the appearance of an ordinary Arda elf woman. She's 5'9, with a sturdy build that hints to her adoption of Hobbit meals. She has long black hair that is, whenever she's awake, confined to a bun, though pieces often escape through her daily activities. She has pale skin and light green eyes, occasionally dabbling into makeup, another habit picked up from Hobbits. While speaking to strangers or acquaintances, she has a rigorous, straight spine, but whenever she starts to talk to friends, she begins to slouch, like that is her natural state.

History: How Laegil came to be is a mystery, and all that is known is that some time in the 23rd century of the Third Age, a couple walking along the Brandywine River found an elven infant on the shore. Having several children already, they decided another couldn't hurt, however odd she may be. They named her Laelia, and raised her like any other hobbit child. Though the differences between her and the others were obvious, she was helpful, the hobbits were goodly natured, and her life was pleasant enough. As she matured, she often took trips to explore the rest of the Shire.

On one of these explorations, she found a band of elves traveling for the Gray Havens. While Laelia knew what an elf was, and that she was one of them by birth, she was startled to see one face to face. The elves were similarly startled to see an elf in the dress and manner of hobbits, and she sat with them for a long discussion. After learning of her childhood, they recommended she travel to the Refuge of Edhelion, to learn more about her people. Laelia was reluctant, but agreed to take the instructions on traveling there. The two groups parted, wishing each other well.

When Laelia's parents passed away, she became unsure of her place in the Shire, and remembering the instructions of the elves, left for Edhelion. Upon arrival, Talagan accepted her as his pupil, and she spent centuries studying under him in all manner of things. Laelia became Laegil in this time, choosing a name that felt more proper for an elf. However, Edhelion was attacked by a group of wicked dwarves, and while Laegil fought to defend her home, it seemed hopeless. It was only when Talagan sacrificed his life to kill the dwarven leader that the attack was repelled, and Edhelion abandoned.

With no home and no master, Laegil traveled for a time. In the end, she ended up drifting back to the Shire, finding that her old home was populated by distant descendants of the hobbits she once knew. Nevertheless, she decided to settle here--Or as near to settling as a restless elf can be. She has a house in Buckland, but often wanders the Shire, helping any hobbit in need of aid. She drives off wolves, repels goblins, and on one memorable occasion cleared the Scary quarry of giant spiders, earning her the title of "Spider-sting". Few hobbits know much about her, and she's generally regarded as a strange sort of guardian fairy.

Personality: Stuck between two worlds and finding no true place among either, Laegil is distant to most people, polite and helpful, but ultimately aloof. She rarely makes lasting relationships with others, and thus rarely bothers with the warmness that begets friendship. Around fellow elves, she has an air of nervousness, as if they might accuse her of being an impostor. Younger elves are easier to befriend, but she finds the older elves, thousands of years old and brimming with history, rather intimidating. Hobbits earn more warmth, but as most find her an oddity at best, she doesn't bother to try to engender herself to them. However, a hobbit that accepts her oddness will find her opening up to them. Humans are neutral ground for her--They offer none of the pressure to make sure that she doesn't mess up some ancient history, but they are oddly short-lived and quick-tempered. Laegil has little love for dwarves, recalling her home's destruction and her master's death at their hands.

Her time among the hobbits is apparent in both her turns of phrases and mannerisms--Though she often tries to act like a proper elf when she is not among strictly hobbits. This often lends to confusing and clumsy attempts to seem mysterious and knowledgeable, appearing more as someone trying to pretend to be an elf. When she isn't preoccupied with what she thinks an elf should act like, she sports a dry sense of humor, muttering snide remarks under her breath. She indulges in hobbits' tendency to judge other people, and if she finds a like minded person, she's quite content to take a beer and discuss various people, picking apart their oddities.

Laegil is, however, ultimately a kind spirit, always willing to lend a hand to whoever needs it. She wants, more than anything, to protect the Shire from the encroaching shadows. She's not sure what one woman who seems to exist as a ghost, with no beginning and no place, can do against the implacable Enemy, but she's determined to protect the one home she has left.

Abilities:
Laegil possesses the abilities that all of the elves of Arda are born with, including:
  • Agelessness: Laegil is not effected by age as the other races are.
  • Enhanced sight and hearing: She sees and hears better than humans
  • No need for sleep: Laegil has grown accustomed to sleep through living with hobbits in her youth, but she only requires a short time of meditation to feel well rested.
  • Enhanced Vitality: She has a higher constitution than humans, not falling prey to sicknesses, and is harder to harm, and quicker to heal. Her stamina is higher, as well.
  • Connection to nature: Laegil has an affinity for the nature around her, able to sense the moods of both fauna and flora.

Laegil is a skilled combatant, and specializes in ranged bowmanship. If she can find a good place to stay and hold off enemies, there are a number of abilities she's learned.
  • Pining Shot: Laegil shoots an arrow into the enemy's foot, pinning them for a brief period of time.
  • Heart Seeker: Putting all of her focus into one arrow, Laegil sends off a shot that is incredibly hard to evade, aiming for the heart.
  • Rain of Arrows: Laegil launches a volley of arrows at the target, allowing either multiple targets to be hit, or one target to take multiple arrows.

Other, miscellaneous skills she has.
  • Cooking: You can't live among hobbits without some idea of how to cook a good, hearty meal.
  • Lute playing: While Laegil is no minstrel, she has some ability to play songs on a lute. She's reluctant to play anything more complex than tavern songs, especially in front of other elves, who would probably be able to tell if she was butchering one of their tales.
  • Tinkerer: Laegil has some skill in creating baubles, simple jewelry, and tokens.

Inventory:
  • A set of clothing
  • Bow, quiver, and arrows
  • Dagger
  • Lute
  • Jeweller's tools
  • Shining silver bracelet
  • Bloodstone earring
  • Handful of wheat seeds
